Documentary film archives house of the documentary film at the European medium forum Stuttgart cover (according to own data) more than 7,000 film titles. The collection consists of the most important international documentary films, authors and style directions from the beginnings to the present.
European film and television productions form the emphasis and here above all central and Eastern European films. The search of productions archived in documentary film archives can be made by the simple search for title, name, transmit data, contents.

In this medium data base can by high-speed search, by specializedsystematic search or by extended search be investigated.

To each AV-medium, which can be selected over a list, there are playing possibilities to Preview quality and a detail side with information about contents of, manufacture data etc. the AV-media is available in the MPEG1-Format for distribution on CD. The compound catalog film (VK film) was initiated by the working group film libraries in Germany; Author and operator of this on-line catalog is the cooperative library group Berlin Brandenburg (KOBV) in the Konrad Zuse center for information technology Berlin (ZIB). The KOBV portal integrates all Internet services of the KOBV under one point of entrance; at present the KOBV Suchmaschine as well as the compound catalog film are merged into the portal. On the one hand film can be looked for film literature and for films (DVDs, video) in the above mentioned libraries in the VK; on the other hand the search can be limited also to films (DVDs, video).
The retrieval is feasible both over the simple search and over the extended search with field-specific options and the application type of boolean operators. In the result list first an overview of the obtained hit quantity takes place in the above mentioned libraries and institutions, however without these can be selected separately. With the announcement of the hits a ranking is supplied after relevance of the hits; the hits can be sorted beside it also according to title, author, year as well as he SOURCE.
After a search the SFX services of the KOBV portal are offered to the user in the full announcement. The Internet catalog of the Mediathek (called on the same Internet site also Mediathek data base) is at present in testing; in it (according to own data) approx. 20,000 titles are registered, which are stored on video cassettes still predominantly.
Beside a collection of film-historically important titles also a broad existence of current and historical television broadcasts is contained according to own data. Still in the structure is the existence of digital medium offers, e.g. interactive work of the media art. For the retrieval an extended search with field-specific options serves. The result can be sorted according to total search, signature, name and year.
The digital video and audio archives (DIVA) is the platform of the university library Karlsruhe for the publication of multimedia lehr and learning materials in the Internet. DIVA offers the digital video and audio files as Streaming Media. The transmission effected thereby in real time, a downloading of the files is forbidden and is technically not supported for copyright reasons.
The emphasis of contents in DIVA is on videos and audio contributions from campuseigener production. With some contributions it acts around Mitschnitte out of broadcast and television, which are noted purposefully for the theory at the University of Karlsruhe. These contributions are callable and usable for copyright reasons only for members of the University of Karlsruhe (TH).
A free text search is available, which can be referred either to all specialist areas or only to individual specialist areas. A further restriction of the search on separately selectable medium kinds (Audios, video, reports, lectures etc.) is possible. The selection can besides on the new acquisitions of the last 4 and/or 2 weeks is limited. Selected programs from DIVA can be subscribed also as Podcast. The current expenditures of the transmissions are sent automatically as Podcast to a computer or a MP3-Player of the user and updated there sequentially. An assistance and an email function are available.
In film archives of the university library Karl peace are features and documentary films (DVDs, video home system video). These can be regarded only locally in the Multimedia studio and are not lendable, this offer serve thus exclusively the users PRACTICE Karl peace.
